Every September, downtown Greensboro turns into a living stage for the North Carolina Folk Festival—a joyful collision of music, dance, craft, and community. This year, the festival team has made an intentional push to highlight and support local artists, ensuring Greensboro’s own voices are heard alongside international guests.
We reached out to the festival for the inside scoop on who’s performing. Here’s what they shared:
Local Folk Tour → Flat Iron Finale

The tour culminates at The Flat Iron with a weekend showcase featuring:

Folklife & International Communities
Back at the Cultural Arts Center, the Folklife & International Communities Area returns, co-curated with Greensboro’s International Advisory Committee. Expect artisans demonstrating their crafts and live performances from groups such as:
Montagnard Association
Flamenco Dance Project
Greensboro Youth Orchestra
After Parties: Local Music Downtown
This year, the official festival programming winds down a little earlier in the evening, but the music doesn’t stop. After-parties hosted by downtown businesses will keep the energy alive while spotlighting local bands.

Supporting Artists, Sustaining Community
Folk music has always been about more than the songs—it’s about people looking out for one another. This year, the NC Folk Festival carried that spirit into practice by making sure local musicians were not only heard but fairly paid. From the summer’s Local Folk Tour to the after-parties downtown, artists received professional rates that honor the work they pour into their craft.
It may not make headlines, but it makes a difference. Every fair paycheck is an investment in the community that keeps Greensboro’s stages alive long after the festival ends.
